ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Tara has been drawing all her life but only got serious about it quite recently.
Her interest in design was kindled by the videogames of the late 1980s and early
1990s, which she still feels are the epitome of good design due to their supreme
cleanliness and economy. She was unable to do art in school as the timetable would
not permit it; she took English Literature instead and gained a BA hons (first class)
degree from Aberystwyth. Subsequently she has followed a meandering path through life
which went from office work to boatbuilding as she sought for something creative that
she could do with her hands. She is currently a student at Pembrokeshire College,
taking a Foundation Degree in Art & Design.
Tara likes 2D fine art, sequential art, and illustration, and is mostly
self-taught. She previously worked exclusively in digital form using a Wacom
tablet and whatever software came to hand, but is now venturing into various kinds
of traditional media including conte, charcoal and gouache. She makes her own
sketchbooks out of whatever comes to hand and is a big fan of recycling.
Due to her background in English Literature she has done a great deal of creative
writing in her own time. She approaches art from a writerly background and tries to
make every piece of work tell its own story.
Tara has been diagnosed with high functioning autism: she is excitable, clueless,
often misses the point, won't look you in the eye, and is far too old to still be
playing Pokémon.
