Basic Rules

#1: Don't do anything pervy. Yes, that includes grabbing someone's rear end.
#2: Don't kill the characters.
#3: Don't maim someone else's character unless you've PMed them first and talked it over. Have them PM a staff member so we know they're alright with it. Nothing too gory though, let's keep it PG, guys. Yes, scratching Cadenz' varnish counts as maiming. :D
#4: No one is more powerful than Wizeman.
#5: Bosses are NPC or already taken by those approved by staff to not be biased. No, you can't apply to be a boss character, sorry.
#6: No one beats up Reala. Try it and he'll take over your account and Beat. You. Up!

We don't encourage it, but we will allow characters from other universes, as long as the universe in question has common ground with the NiGHTS 'verse. Example, bring in a Sailor Scout and we'll have to smite you off the forum, however, bring in a character that's Kirby related and we'll probably allow it since Kirby had a dream theme to the games.

If you're really die hard to play a Human character, expect to get beaten up/pwnt/have your lunch money stolen. Often. We're sorry but Humans aren't likely to hold their own against Nightmaren.

Races:

When making your character, if you are a Nightmaren you have 15 stars to distribute over five stats. You must have at least one star in each stat, up to a maximum of five. Stats are not used in the RP but give everyone an idea of your character's abilities, strengths and weaknesses.

If you are a Human, you only get ten stars to allocate, and a cap of four instead of five. Be sure you know what you're doing before you request to play as a Human; you will probably need to befriend a like-minded Nightmaren (who shares your Ideya aura) and agree to team up. Nightmaren and humans who team up get twenty stars for their combined character while they are Merged/Dualized. This is the only remotely possible way to take on Wizeman, who has twenty-five stars naturally.

On Merging/Dualizing, please note the following:

You cannot RP two characters yourself and get the boost that way. Characters must be played by different people.

Canon characters such as NiGHTS and Reala are not available to Merge/Dualize with you.

If you want to play a character that is neither a Nightmaren nor a Human, please discuss it with Tara or TheBlackFox and we'll try and work out how to handle it.

Stats are related to the five colors of Ideya (Purity, Hope, Wisdom, Intelligence, Bravery).

Speed is obvious: how quickly your character can be expected to travel from A to B. Outside of battle it relates to innocence and virtue.

Strength is his physical endurance: how much can he lift at once, how hard does he hit. Outside of battle it relates to hope and optimism.

Agility involves dodging blows and performing stunts such as the Paraloop. Outside of battle it relates to creativity and the arts.

Intelligence is your character's mental cunning and also covers non-combatant skills. Outside of battle it relates to learning and intellectual abilities.

Courage is a measure of your character's willpower, and also how much damage he can take before going down. Outside of battle it relates to nobility and a sense of honor.

For "Ideya Aura" pick your character's strongest stat. If there are two stats the same, pick the one you feel suits your character best. This is your character's speciality, and the type of Dream Energy he or she is most drawn to. (This will be important if you wish to Merge/Dualize)

You can ally yourself with Nightmare (the bad guys), Nightopia (the good guys), or declare yourself an Independent (in which case you can expect to be beaten up by both sides, so be sure you know what you are doing).
